Valentine's Weekend

Happy Valentine's Day!  Because the actual day was on Sunday, Marc and I decided to celebrate on Saturday.  After working at the office for most of the day, the festivities began.

We traveled out to Phipps Conservatory, which is located on the campus of the University of Pittsburgh.  We saw a variety of different flowers and plants.  The orchids were the main focus of many exhibits.  We saw a variety of exotic fruits, coffee trees, chocolate trees, orchids, Amazon growth, and a variety of desert life.  A few of the pictures are posted below:

After spending about two hours in what seemed like a tropical rainforest, and a good escape from the winter wonderland that was occuring, we went to dinner at P.F. Changs.  Neither one of us has ever been there.  It was good to try something new, and we were pleasently surprised.  The food was served "family style,"  so we each chose a dish.  I had orange peel chicken with white rice, and Marc opted for the Mongolian beef with brown rice.  Of course we sampled each others and we even had mini-dessserts.  It was just enough to fill our bellies.

We spent the remainder of the evening at my apartment watching the Olympics and watching Kentucky basketball.  It was great to just relax with a few drinks on the couch.  Of course I was a little vocal during the basketball game.  (I think I scared Marc some.)  We also really got into the speed skating on the Olympics, and we watched the men's luge with heavy hearts.  The Olympics are always fun and exciting!

I gave Marc his present last night.  I got him a yellow "LiveStrong" hooded sweatshirt made by Nike.  All the proceeds went to Lance Armstrong's LiveStrong Foundation.  He mentioned about a month ago that he wouldn't mind having something from the Nike collection.  I filed that information away, and decided that it would make a nice gift for Valentine's Day.

Today, on Valentine's Day, we went to Bob Evan's for breakfast.  We got there right before the "after-church" crowd hit the restaurant.  It was good timing.  We ventured to the mall to shop around for a little bit, and then did our weekly grocery shopping.  For dinner, we made homemade stromboli from scratch.  It was Marc's mother's recipe, and it is one of our favorites.  We stuffed ourselves silly, and I know I will not be thinking about food for a long time!

It was a great weekend, and very relaxing.  Tomorrow starts another long week at work.  Is tax season over yet??
